Watching a recent episode of La Comida del Barrio with chef Aarón Sánchez set in Boyle Heights sent me down a food nostalgia spiral.

If you had to point someone to your favorite Mexican spot in Boyle Heights that can't be missed, where is it and what do they HAVE to order?

Theres a mexican market next to guisados on Cesar Chavez that sell a variety of tiny pre-rolled burritos that are delicious. I dont remember the name of the market but every burrito i had there were great. Off topic but the chicken teriyaki at Thai Deli is bomb too.

Mariscos Jalisco, Macheen, Carnitas el Momo, and Los Originales Tacos Árabes.

Coffee: Picaresca and Ulew (the latter technically is Guatemalan owned).

Good mentions already. Street food wise then Tacos El Chino. Across Food 4 Less.

  15. Cake Girl for sweets. Plus they serve Post Era coffee. Otomisan (oldest continuously operating Japanese restaurant in LA, BH had a mixed Mexican, Japanese, and Jewish demographic before the freeways split up the neighborhood)El Tepeyac. I prefer George’s Burgers over Jim’s Burger. And like others have said, Macheen (I really like their Portuguese sausage breakfast burrito) and Al ans Bea’s (bean and cheese with green sauce and fries added then a side of red salsa).
